an invitation to restore...
We are delighted to offer you an opportunity to join us for a week long restorative retreat on the island of Kea, Greece.
This retreat is uniquely developed for women recovering from cancer treatment.
If you are longing for a deeply restful retreat, this is the week for you! Focus will be on rest and nourishment, with scheduled time for afternoon rest and reflection, designated time to heal the body and mind through swims in the sea and pool, and hours reading and journaling next to the gorgeous infinity pool– no agenda or plan–just rest. We invite you to dare to rest as a spiritual practice.
Our fundamental philosophy is that our bodies have the ability to heal if given nourishment and rest. While healing may not always include curing, it does include joyful and grateful acceptance and restoring our bodies and minds to our natural state of balance.
Based on the pillars of Mediterranean lifestyle medicine and Ayurvedic Medicine, we have carefully curated a week long experience which will leave you feeling rested, nourished, strong, curious and inspired.
Under the glorious Greek sun and next to the azure Aegean Sea, we will help you begin to recover from the effects of challenging events in your life. We are here to offer some of the tools which have helped us in our own journeys of recovery.
Deepen Your Journey…
Follow with Seven Daily Practices of Ayurveda: Dinacharya
Ayurveda, one of the oldest systems of healing in the world, originated in India over 5000 years ago. The word Ayurveda is from Sanskrit and means knowledge of life, or perhaps, knowledge of how we can live joyful, healthy lives. It is the art of living.
The philosophies of Ayurveda focus on understanding an individual’s constitution and characteristics (dosha)—habits, longings, aversions—and how each individual can remain in balance. Imbalance leads to dis-ease, and ultimately disease. The first step is to know ourselves deeply, and then to incorporate this knowledge into the choices we make everyday. It is a lifetime process, as we change with each passing moment.
At Anasa Soma, we offer 7 practices:
- one on one consultation to determine your own constitution (prakruti) and imbalances (vrikruti)
- Vyama daily movement through yoga and walking
- meditation each morning calms mind
- nutrative shamana practices of oleation
- balance energy fields through polarity and marma
- sound healing and mantra to connect to divine cosmic consciousness
- nourishment with locally grown vegetarian foods prepared on site
Suspend disbelief.
You may be surprised what you will discover as you journey within.

We are sisters …
Kate Randall
Kate is an artist, yogi, bodyworker, and teacher. She is also an intrepid traveler, and a healer with a deep practice in meditation, yoga, ritual, shamanism, healing and esoteric traditions. She has studied and taught art for decades, and currently acts as head of the Visual Arts department at The Urban School of San Francisco where she has taught for the past 24 years. Kate’s work teaching adolescents is phenomenal. Her studio practice began in Boston in 1989 and has blossomed over the past 30 years in the cultural mecca of the San Francisco Bay Area. Her teaching style is supportive while also leading people to move beyond limitations and find their way into making work that is inspired, authentic and aesthetically sophisticated. Kate helps her students evolve in magical ways. She has become a catalyst and creative inspiration for many young artists. Inspiring, creating, transforming, Kate walks with a foot in two worlds – the world of everyday life and the world of other realms. Kate believes in metamorphosis, both personal and collective. She makes visual art (sculpture, installation / performance, printmaking); she writes haibun or haiku, enjoys walking meditations, and does various kinds of hands-on and energetic healing work.
Julia Brock
Julia or Jules (as many of us call her) was a practicing OBGYN and robotic surgeon for decades in Vermont and Maine. She retired from full time medical practice 2023. As a physician, she had the honor and privilege of assisting many women as they birthed their babies, trained hundreds of medical students and residents, and worked to improve universal access to care. She still joyfully plays Dr. Mary Poppins periodically by covering labor and deliveries in underserved rural communities across Maine so that women can deliver in their hometowns.
This was a year of introspection. She furthered explorations into healing by studying ancient wisdom and practices across a wide range of modalities. Julia has completed a 200 hour Yoga teacher training with Katie O’Connell in the Vinyasa lineage, studied Heart-based Meditation, and is studying Kundalini yoga. She did a lot over the past year, including: spending a month in Southern India in Panchakarma and Ayurveda; travel to Guatemala, Bali and West Papua; biking Europe; studying the scientific basis of Mediterranean diet and lifestyle with international experts; completing part of the Kumano Kodo Buddhist pilgrimage in southern Japan. One of the most transformative experiences of the year was a sacred commitment to a lifelong path as a practicing Buddhist, by taking refuge vows and initiation ceremony as a Medicine Buddha with HE Ling Rinpoche at Menla with Dr Robert Thurman. Jules is devoted to a daily spiritual practice and yoga practice, and knows deeply– in the space beyond conscious knowing– each of us hold the insight and knowledge for self healing, if only we can clear our tangles and open our hearts and minds.
Her current area of interest is in transition, recovery and alchemy. How do we heal after treatment, and connect to the immense power of the universe to assist this healing? This interest has grown in recent years with some serious health challenges, which are currently background noise in the rearview mirror. She is an amateur writer and poet, ceramicist and photographer.
Jules currently lives between Portland, Maine and Greece, although the wind is blowing strongly towards the Cycladic Islands in Greece.
Susan Randall
Susan is a mom, and an investigator/mitigation specialist, and loves to do yoga and wants to meditate more. She also completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training with Katie O’Connell in 2022. Susan has attended yoga trainings and workshops over the years with Sarah Powers, Simon Park, Coral Brown and others, and has taken meditation and Pranayama courses with Art of Living instructor David McColgin. Susan is an early-stage breast cancer survivor, which was a real wake up call. Susan enjoys helping people realize their dreams. She has been working as a mitigation specialist on death penalty cases around the country and has been investigating serious criminal cases for over 27 years. Susan needs a break and is organizing this retreat again (we did this in 2023 and it was awesome!) in part to take some space away from work and the bustle of life, and is hoping to create a space for others to do the same….thus the name, ‘The Defense Rests, 2.0.”
This is for you if...
