monotypes

This series of monotypes were created at Kala Art Institute during time of working as an artist in residence in 2008. I was new to printmaking and experimenting with different solvents, ways of creating lines and textures. Some of these monotypes are second impressions known as ghost prints. My experiences scuba diving along reefs in Indonesia inspired both the composition and choices of color. I was particularly drawn to that sense of complexity and dynamic activity in the life of the reef in contrast to the deep blue stillness of the ocean. Titles are in Bahasa Indonesia referencing different perspectives of looking down from above, being inside, being deep down in.
